Nothing can quite capture the spirit and charm of summer like an outdoor party. Turning your lawn or backyard into a summer oasis takes a bit of effort, but is well worth it. The ambiance of an outdoor party at night with the open summer sky above and warm lights all around is priceless. Last month, we shared some general guidelines for outdoor decorations in an HOA, and this month we have a few helpful ideas to get your summer party started.
See what is allowed according to HOA regulations, talk to your neighbors, and have fun. Make sure your plans are acceptable under the terms of your HOA. You can find this out by checking your governing documents you received upon moving in, through the register of deeds, or simply by contacting us, or whoever you HOA Management company is. Make sure you talk to your neighbors if your party is going to go late into the night, (or just invite them over!)
Lighting
A night party can mean festive lights. A few strings of classic party lights around the edge of your yard can provide both light and charm. There are many different kinds of fun, festive, and affordable outdoor lighting options out there- have fun with it!
Try selecting a colorful vase and filling it with flowers. Place the vase outside on a table right against a fence or wall. Aim one of your lights at it, or surround it with other lighting. This helps brighten up your party while adding color and charm.
Try to stay away from bright, white lights, like outdoor security lights or work lamps, because they provide light, but not charm!
Fun and Creative Outdoor Seating
You might already have a few outdoor seats, but you can always have more. You might want to think about renting a few extra outdoor chairs. You can also easily make your own seating areas and kid-friendly hang out zones with some blankets and rope. Run a length of rope between two hard points, such as two tree limbs or trees. Throw a large blanket over the rope and stake down the four corners so you make a classic pup tent. Try to make it as roomy as you can. Now throw down a few old sheets or blankets you don’t mind getting dirty, add a lot of pillows, and then you wil have a fun hang out area that kids will love! Experiment with having only one side of the tent covered or try using more blankets.
These are just a few hints to get your DIY party ideas started. If you have any other questions, talk with your HOA management company to see if they can provide good tips, or even references for event rental services.
